Plus, throughout the week, I share posts and stories related to the theme to keep us motivated and educated! Be sure to drop a comment on those posts to share your plans and insights. Your experiences could be a game-changer for others in the community!
I know it might seem like these weekly themes are too small and won’t change anything, maybe even inconsequential in the grand scheme of life. But trust me, it’s the little shifts, those tiny moves, that can completely alter the trajectory of our lives! Isn’t that cool?!
I’ve included a couple of quotes from James Clear’s book “Atomic Habits” in the Balance Sheet that capture this idea perfectly:
“A slight change in your daily habits can guide your life to a different destination.”
“Success is the product of daily habits, not once-in-a-lifetime transformations.”
“Making a choice that is 1% better or 1% worse is insignificant in the moment. But over the span of moments that make up a lifetime, these choices determine the difference between who you are and who you could be.”
Let’s take a moment to look back at January’s weekly themes and see what the community had to say:
Week 1: Write and say out loud 5 affirmations each day
Affirmations proved to be a hit, encouraging positive thinking. Some favorites included; I am enough (whether as a mom, employee or friend), trusting and reminding ourselves that we add value.
Week 2: Cut out alcohol/soft drinks/your choice for the week
I shared an inspiring testimonial from a friend who kicked alcohol and noticed a reduction in his anxiety. Major props to him! Go check out that post!
Week 3: Call (no texting) at least 3 people you haven’t talked to in a while but think about often
Picking up the phone took effort, but the joy it brought both parties was a definite win-win! This article outlines the benefits of talking to a person versus only texting: Should you call or text – science weighs in.
Week 4: Unfollow social media accounts that cause you frustration or anxiety
So many people were pleasantly surprised by the relief that came from unfollowing stress-inducing accounts. We took back the control of what’s getting put in our face – it’s so freeing!
Week 5: No cell phone for the first 30 minutes of your day
This one made a significant impact! A friend mentioned using her phone less during the day by skipping the morning email and social media checks. Amazing! Check out this article with science backing this idea up: Why you should stop checking your phone in the morning.
Now, let’s get pumped for February! Here’s a sneak peek at what’s coming:
Week 6: Listen to new music this week
Week 7: Stretch for 15 minutes each day
Week 8: Volunteer at a local charity
Week 9: Cut back on watching TV
